The Swift Current Broncos shootout woes continued on Saturday night as they failed to beat Blades goaltender Braden Holtby in their fourth shootout loss of the season in a 4-3 loss in Saskatoon on Saturday night.

Holtby closed the door on R.J. LaRochelle, Keegan Dansereau, and Dale Weise as the Broncos remained without a shootout victory on the season.

Chris Durand scored the lone shootout goal for the Blades to earn the extra point.

The Broncos held a 3-1 lead late in the third period after a pair of goals from Dale Weise and a powerplay goal from import forward David Stieler. The Broncos saw their two goal lead evaporate in less than a minute when they allowed goals to Stefan Elliot and Durand to send the game to overtime.

The Broncos outshot the Blades 22-16 in the game’s first two periods but were outshot 15-5 by the Blades in the final frame and by a 35-30 margin overall.

Travis Yonkman turn aside 29 of 32 shots for the Broncos in the loss to see his record drop to 9-5-0-4.

Braden Holtby stopped 27 of 30 shots and improved his record to 7-10-0-0.

The Broncos were one for seven on the powerplay while seeing their record move to 12-5-0-4, second place in the East Division.

Despite the two points the Blades continue to sit last in the East Division with a 7-12-1-0 record.

Sunday night the Broncos will host the Prince Albert Raiders at the Credit Union iplex at 7 p.m.
