The Swift Current Broncos fell 3-1 to the league leading Spokane Chiefs in front of 7,354 fans at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night.

Levi Nelson was credited with the lone Broncos’ goal, his 11th of the season midway through the opening frame.

Mike Reddington scored early in the second period, his first of the season, to set off the Teddy Bear Toss.

Once all the bears had been cleared it took Judd Blackwater only 29 seconds to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead with his 10th goal of the campaign. t

Import forward Ondrej Roman notched an insurance marker 9:55 into the third period to make it a 3-1 final.

Travis Yonkman made 21 saves in lowering his record to 14-9-0-5.

Kevin Armstrong turned aside 19 of 20 shots to improve his record to 11-3-1-1 for the Chiefs.

The Broncos were zero for four on the powerplay, while the Chiefs went zero for six.

The loss lowers the Broncos record to 17-11-0-5 while the Chiefs improve to a WHL best 23-5-1-2. The Broncos trail the Regina Pats by two points for second spot in the WHL’s East Division.

Monday the Broncos will be in Tri-City to face the 22-7-1-0 Americans in their third game of a six game West Coast swing over nine days.
