Blades Blanked by Brandon

The Saskatoon Blades suffered their 17th loss on the road this season on Friday night in Brandon, falling to the Wheat Kings by a final score of 6-0.

The Wheat Kings went to the power play 12 times on the evening, scoring 4 of their 6 goals on the man advantage. The Blades had just 3 power plays and failed to score on all of them.

Brandon's goals all came from six different scorers, with Cale Jefferies and Matt Calvert scoring within the first 7 minuets of the game, chasing Blades starting goaltender Braden Holtby from the net after making 5 saves on 7 shots. Garrett Zemlak allowed the other 4 goals on 39 shots. The Blades allowed 46 shots against in total while they took 22 shots of their own. Backup goaltender Andrew Hayes recorded the shutout in goal for Brandon.

Other Wheat King goal scorers on the night were Theran Yeo, Tyler Dittmer, Brayden Schenn, and Matt Lowry.

Blades forward Mike Reich had 23 penalty minutes in the game, 16 more than any other player.

The Blades won't have to wait long to rebound as they return to home ice, where they sport a 10-4 record, tomorrow night as the Kelowna Rockets are in town. It's Global Toque Toss night as well as Budget Rain Check Night. For tickets to the game, click here.
