DAVOS, Switzerland (Courtesy of Canadian Press) – Canada has won the Spengler Cup for the first time since 2003.

Former Brandon Wheat King Kirby Law and Ryan Keller scored second period goals New Years Eve to lift Canada to a 2-1 victory over Russian club Salavat Yalaev Ufa in the Championship final of the five-team tournament.

Former National Hockey League all star goalkeeper Curtis Joseph was a standout in goal, allowing only Alexander Perezhogin's second-period tally for Ufa.

It was Canada's 11th Spengler Cup win since it began entering teams in 1984, but its first in four years.

Law was one of three ex-Wheat Kings on the ice in Monday's final. The others included former captain Marty Murray and blueliner Oleg Tverdosky, who was suiting up for the Russian team.

In other International play, Canada looks to rebound at the World Junior Hockey Championships when it takes to the ice against Denmark Monday while Team Western, featuring three 16-year old members of the Wheat Kings improved to 2-0 at the World Under 17 Challenge in London Sunday night with a 7-4 victory over Team Atlantic.
