2008 began on better note for the Swift Current Broncos than 2007 ended when they snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 overtime win over the Regina Pats on New Years Day.

Defenseman Michale Wilson was the hero when he scored with only two seconds remaining in the five-minute four-on-four overtime period.

Levi Nelson scored the game's opening goal in the first period, his fourth in three games and 14th of the season.

Regina's Michael MacAngus evened the game 1-1 in the second period, his 11th of the campaign.

Wilson's goal was his fourth of the season and first game-winner. Last season five of Wilson's 10 goals were game-winners.

Broncos captain Zack Smith collected assists on both goals, extending his point streak to two goals and four assists over four games.

Travis Yonkman earned his 15th win of the season, stopping 25 of 26 shots in the Broncos' goal.

Linden Rowat dropped to 18-12-1-1 while turning aside 28 of 30 Broncos' shots.

The Broncos' powerplay, which entered the contest connecting at 20.3 per cent, failed to score on four opportunities.

The penalty killing unit, which was operating at an 80.1 per cent rate, killed off all five Pats' man-advantages.

Tuesday's meeting was the third of the season between the two teams. The home team had won each contest prior to the Broncos' road win.

The win improves the Broncos record to 19-16-0-5, while the Pats drop to 24-15-2-1.
