The Swift Current Broncos failed in their attempt to stretch their winning streak to a season high four games when they fell 4-1 to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday night.

In front of 3,833 fans at Westman Place the Broncos were outshot 36-25 and lost for the fourth time in five meetings with the Wheat Kings.

Keegan Dansereau supplied the lone Broncos goal early in the third period, his 14th of the season.

Luke Schenn, Nathan Green, Sanfred King, and Chad Erb each scored in the win for Brandon.

The Broncos powerplay failed to connect on four man-advantages and has now scored only three goals in 34 powerplays over six games.

The penalty killing unit did their part by fighting off all three Wheat Kings powerplays.

Travis Yonkman stopped 32 of 36 shots to see his record drop to 18-15-0-5.

Joe Caligiuri turned aside 24 of 25 shots to win his 19th game of the season.

Trade deadline acquisitions Bretton Stamler, Jesse Dudas, and Mark Guggenberger all dressed in a Broncos uniform for the first time. Stamler, a 20-year-old blueliner and former captain of the Edmonton Oil Kings, wore an ‘A’ in his first game with his new team.

The two teams will meet for the sixth and final time in Swift Current on March 5th at the Credit Union iplex.

The loss drops the Broncos to 22-18-0-5, eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

The Wheat Kings improve to 27-14-0-1, fourth in the Eastern Conference.

Saturday night the Broncos will be in Regina to face the Pats.
