Federal, provincial money helps Saskatchewan arena go green, year-round
PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - The good old hockey game is going green and year-round in a Saskatchewan community after a $250,000 funding boost.
The federal and provincial governments say the cash will allow the Rural Municipality of Buckland to "rejuvenate" the community's hockey and skating arena. The money comes from the Canada-Saskatchewan Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund.
Prince Albert MP Brian Fitzpatrick says in a release that the investment will help both the health of the community and its economic viability.
The release says making the arena operate year-round will improve the energy efficiency, increase traffic to the area, and provide space for training camps, trade shows, concerts and community events.
The RM of Buckland encompasses the area directly northwest of Prince Albert.
