Repik re-joins Giants practices Tuesday
Talk about adding pep to your step.
Winger Michal Repik, the Vancouver Giants’ most gifted offensive player, is slated to practice Tuesday in a yellow, non-contact jersey, marking his first workout with the team since being injured Dec. 1.
Vancouver has managed to go a startling 13-3-0-2 minus Repik (head) so far, and they remain in the hunt for the WHL championships, their 32-10-1-5 record leaving them percentage points behind the Spokane Chiefs for the league lead.
Repik is so dynamic and was so good in the playoffs and Memorial Cup that his return to practice alone should be a confidence booster for the club.
Coach Don Hay said that he’ll likely skate in a non-contact jersey all week and miss the home-and-home weekend series with the Tri-City Americans.
The plan is for him to take part in contact drills starting next Monday and rejoin the line-up for a Jan. 30 visit from the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
“I told the players at the trade deadline while we got what we needed on our defence with R.J. LaRochelle,” Hay said, pointing to a trade pick-up from the Swift Current Broncos, “they shouldn’t forget that we also had Michal coming back, too.
“We haven’t missed him as much as we could have. It’s real credit to our players and their beliefs in our systems. But he is a very good player.”
