The Red Deer Rebels host the Brandon Wheat Kings tonight, 7:30PM at the ENMAX Centrium. The Wheat Kings come into the game with a 28-17-0-2 record good for 58 points and 7th place in the Eastern Conference. The Wheat Kings last played Wednesday in Lethbridge and lost that game 4-3 to the Hurricanes.

Wheat Kings defenceman Colby Robak played in the Canadian Hockey League’s Top Prospects Game Wednesday in Edmonton. He is ranked 8th in North America by the NHL’s Central Scouting Service in the mid-term rankings for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The Rebels haven’t played since Sunday when they lost 3-0 to the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Rebels come into the game with a 13-32-4-1 record and in 12th place in the Eastern Conference. The Wheat Kings were in Red Deer January 2nd and won that game 2-0. The Rebels were in Brandon October 17th and lost 6-1. Red Deer will be in Brandon Friday February 1st to close out the regular season series.

The Rebels called up 18-year old goaltender David Aime from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the B.C. (Junior A) Hockey League this week due to an injury to James Reimer. Aime played last season with the Prince Albert Raiders and his rights were obtained from the Raiders in November. Sunday the Rebels host the Portland Winter Hawks, 6:00PM at the ENMAX Centrium. It's Portland's first visit to the ENMAX Centrium in exactly two years having won 4-2 on January 27, 2006 in Red Deer when Ted Vandermeer scored the winner with over 6,000 in attendance. After the game, it’s the Red Deer Advocate Post Game Skate. Kids and parents are invited to bring their gear and skate with the Rebels immediately following the game!

What has happened to our power play? 1 for 37?? in our last few games?? Ouch!!! Our goal-tending is average at best the last few games? Main reason for our slump. What happened to the best offence in the league the first half of the season?? vci33

Oh man, what a close one tonight. Thank god Dittmer came through and got us the two points we needed. Still, 3 games in 3 nights is harsh. Kootenay tomorrow, Calgary Sunday
