'TIP NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League today announced that forward Dan Gendur of the Everett Silvertips, has been named the Husky WHL Player of the Month for January.

The twenty-year old forward out of Victoria, BC has strung together the most productive month in Silvertip history, scoring ten goals and adding sixteen assists for 26 points along with a plus minus rating of +9 in 14 games played.

Gendur recorded points in 11 of 14 games played, including eight multi-point efforts. When the Silvertips won their fifth game in a row on January 23rd, with a 6-0 shutout in Prince George, he produced his most dynamic effort of the season as he was in on all six Everett goals, scoring twice while adding four assists. His consistent effort that week garnered Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week honors for action between January 21st and January 27th.

Gendur’s consistency helped Everett post a 9-5 record, including a season-high six game winning streak, through the month of January and an overall regular season record of 29-23-0-2. The Silvertips currently sit fifth place in the WHL Western Conference. His steady play through the month also earned him a Three Star selection in six of the Silvertips’ 14 games played.

After 45 games Gendur has posted career highs of 22 goals and 43 assists, good enough for fifth spot among WHL Top Scorers with 65 points.

Gendur is in his fourth year of play in the Western Hockey League. His WHL career started with the Prince George Cougars before joining the Silvertips near the start of last season. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 7th round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

His accomplishments make Dan Gendur a deserving choice as the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for December. Brandon's nominee was 18-year old right-winger Nathan Green, who finished among the team leaders in scoring last month with four goals and 11 points.

I wish we still had him on our team. It's too bad that they couldn't have what type of player he was and given him the proper ice time. He is one opponent that I have no problems cheering for and I am glad he has had such success in a new environment.
