Brandon, Manitoba – Fresh off another grueling 5-game Western Hockey League road trip, the Brandon Wheat Kings return to the friendly confines of Westman Communications Group Place this week for the start of a pivotal 6-game home stand, beginning Wednesday night against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.

Well on their way to clinching a WHL playoff berth – for the fifteenth time in the past 16 seasons – the Wheat Kings home stand will continue on Friday and Saturday nights against the Kamloops Blazers and Kootenay Ice respectively. Brandon will then close out this home stand next week with games against Chilliwack, Lethbridge and Calgary.

Not only will the Wheat Kings be busy on the ice, hoping to gain ground on both the East Division and Conference leaders, members of the WHL club will be active throughout western Manitoba as the season winds down on both the Source for Sports – Coca Cola Bottling Minor Hockey Caravan and the CIBC Read to Succeed Program.

On Tuesday, injured blueliner Theran Yeo visits Kirkcaldy Heights School and will be reading to both the kindergarten and grades 4/5 classes. Yeo will then be joined by netminder Joe Caligiuri at Hamiota Elementary School on Thursday morning. In Hamiota, the Wheat Kings will be visiting five classrooms.

The CIBC Read to Succeed Program emphasizes the importance of reading, receiving a good education and performing to the best of your abilities. It teaches early and middle years students that reading can be fun. The players will be promoting the message that reading is not only a critical skill, it’s a tool that can deliver exciting adventures and open up a world of opportunities for students.

Meanwhile three members of the Wheat Kings will be travelling out to MacGregor on Tuesday as the hockey club hosts its fifth and final Minor Hockey Caravan visit of the 2007-08 campaign. Rookies Andrew Hayes, Sanfred King and Alexander Grill-Donovan will be practicing with two of MacGregor’s minor hockey teams, they’ll be signing autographs and will distribute complimentary tickets (courtesy of Coca Cola and Source for Sports) for the Wheat Kings’ March 1st game against the visiting Calgary Hitmen at Westman Place.

During the week of Feb. 26th, the Wheat Kings and Rogers will host the 2008 Fan Camp at Westman Place, members of the WHL team will be signing autographs and visiting customers at Sobeys South End, Manitoba Public Insurance, Brandon Sun and Subway will present the final School Patrol Luncheon of the season at King George School and members of the Wheat Kings will travel to Waskada for another Read to Succeed visit.

Brandon will be hoping to snap a 2-game losing streak when they host Moose Jaw on Wednesday. The Wheat Kings are coming off Saturday's 4-1 loss to the defending WHL Champion Tigers in Medicine Hat. Rookie Jordan Hale scored the lone goal for the Wheat Kings, who went 0-6 with the man advantage. A second period shorthanded goal by Colton Grant proved to be the game winner.
