The Swift Current Broncos’ climb up the Eastern Conference standings stalled in Prince Albert with a 7-3 loss to the Raiders on Saturday night. The two teams entered the third period tied 2-2 but four consecutive Raiders’ goals in the opening 11:17, capped by a Dustin Cameron shorthanded marker, led to the Broncos’ fifth loss in six games against the Raiders who sit 26 points behind the Broncos in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on a pair of powerplay goals but David Stieler and Erik Felde responded in the middle frame with powerplay markers of their own.

Keegan Dansereau scored 13:46 into the third period for the Broncos, his 20th of the season.

Justin Bernhardt paced the Raiders attack with three goals and two assists. Matt Robertson, Devon LeBlanc, and Ryan McDonald also added goals for the Raiders.

Travis Yonkman stopped 15 of 21 shot to suffer his 19th loss of the season before being replaced by Mark Guggenberger who allowed one goal on six shots.

Dustin Butler stopped 35 of 38 shots to earn his 16th win on the campaign.

The Broncos scored twice on eight powerplays but allowed three goals on four Raiders’ man-advantages. The Broncos penalty kill entered the game ranked ninth in the WHL at 83.3 per cent and had allowed only two goals in 61 opportunities over 11 games.

The loss drops the Broncos to 34-22-0-5 and from fourth to sixth in the Eastern Conference.

The Raiders improve to 21-34-3-2 and remain in 11th.
