Raiders' concussion cloud still hovering

The concussion cloud continues to hover over the Prince Albert Raiders.

A troublesome plague that has been a constant concern for the WHL club this season, the latest bout has put Jordan Trach and Blaine Tender on the sidelines for nearly two months.

Earlier this season, rookie defenceman Kyle Aschim missed 10 weeks because of a problematic recovery from a concussion.

As was the case then, the Raiders are taking ever precaution this time around.

With the end of the season approaching, general manager and head coach Bruno Campese feels it's important to get Trach and Tendler back in the lineup if they are fit.

That possibility seems more likely for Tendler, who is back on the ice and has been symptom free for consecutive days. The 17-year-old from Viceroy has played in 46 games with one goal and 15 points.

Tendler admitted it's been an aggravating time, not knowing when he can play.

"It's frustrating," said Tendler. "There is not much time left in the season, and once I get cleared I have to get game ready. It's going to be tough."

With five games left, the optimistic thinking has Tendler possible for the final weekend versus Saskatoon.

Trach, however, is another story.

He was in Calgary on Wednesday for an MRI as the club looks to get to the bottom of his issues.

Last week, the 17-year-old from North Battleford had a CT scan, but Campese said there has been no progress in his condition.

"We have decided to take it to another level to figure out what is going on," Campese said Wednesday. "Hopefully (the MRI) will reveal something, one way or another. So far we have ruled out some things but know we are trying to rule out others."

In 46 games this season, Trach has six goals and eight points.

Prince Albert's first-round pick, eighth overall, in the 2005 bantam draft, Trach battled injuries throughout most of last season as well, playing in just 41 games.

Coincidentally, Tendler and Aschim were also drafted in 2005. Tendler was taken in the second round and Aschim in the seventh.

Enter the Matrix

Five lucky fans will have a shot at a new set of wheels when the Raiders host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday at the Art Hauser Centre.

A year ago, Prince Albert's Greg Falk was successful and drove away in a new truck. He'll be on hand Friday as fans shoot for a 2009 Toyota Matrix from Frank Dunn Toyota.

Falk will be joined by the latest Prince Albert shooting star, Darwin Head. Head won $1 million Feb. 27 in TSN's Million Dollar Shootout in Vancouver.

Head will perform a ceremonial faceoff Friday in his first public appearance since netting national fame.

Cabaret to follow

Following Friday night's game, fans are invited to the Ches Leach Lounge to be entertained free of charge by local band Rewind as the Raiders honour their volunteers and billets. The event is open to the public.

Education lottery deadline

Fans looking to get in on the action in the Goals for Education Lottery are running out of time. With the draw scheduled for March 15, the deadline to purchase tickets is March 12 at 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the lottery go to the Raider education fund.
