Hoping to win their third straight game the Swift Current Broncos fell 3-1 to the host Kootenay Ice on Saturday night.

In front of 3,002 fans at the Cranbrook Rec Complex the Ice jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on a powerplay goal from Kevin King.

Dustin Sylvester stretched the lead to 2-0 5:07 into the second period with a shorthanded goal, his 35th of the season.

Ice captain Steve DaSilva added his 38th of the season four minutes later to put the game out of reach.

16-year-old Cody Eakin replied 5:05 into the final frame with the 11th goal of his rookie campaign.

Mark Guggenberger suffered the loss with 29 saves on 32 shots to fall to 6-2-1-0 as a Bronco.

Chris Lazaruk stopped 29 of 30 shots to improve to 25-15-2-2. Lazaruk now has a 1.30 goals against average and .956 save percentage in three outings in March.

The Broncos powerplay entered the contest 13th in the WHL at 18.3 per cent but failed to score on three opportunities.

The penalty killing unit entered the game 11th at 83 per cent and allowed one goal on four Ice powerplays.

The win improves the Ice to 41-20-5-3 and sit in third place in the Eastern Conference.

The Broncos fall to 39-23-1-6 and are tied for sixth place with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Wednesday the Broncos will be in Saskatoon to visit the red-hot Blades who have are currently riding a four-game winning streak.
