The Kelowna Rockets were pleased to announce that Brandon McMillan and Tyler Myers will be part of Canada’s National Men’s Under 18 at the 2008 IIHF World Under 18 Championships held in Kazan, Russia from April 13-23, 2008.

This will be McMillan’s first international tournament. Coming off his second season in the Western Hockey League McMillan recorded career highs in goals (15), assists (26) and points (41). He was also selected to play in the Annual CHL Top Prospects Game back in January.

"It’s a great honour to wear my countries jersey and to get the chance to complete at an international competition,” stated McMillan.

Tyler Myers is also coming off a season in which he recorded career highs in goals (6) and points (19). Myers has been a highly touted defensemen by NHL scouts during the lead up to the June NHL entry draft. Like McMillan, this will be the first time Myers has an opportunity to play internationally.

Kelowna Rockets President/General Manager Bruce Hamilton says, “It’s great for Brandon and Tyler to be selected to play. It will give them both more exposure and playing in Europe will be a great experience for them.”

McMillan and Myers will join five other WHL stars and 15 other players that will open up the tournament against Germany on April 13.

The roster is comprised of players born in 1990 or earlier whose teams are no longer competing in the CHL playoffs with their respective CHL club teams. Many of Canada’s players named to the roster will be among the top selections at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in Ottawa, ON in June.

Canada’s coaching staff – head coach Pat Quinn and assistants Guy Boucher and Jesse Wallin – collaborated with Al Murray, Hockey Canada’s head scout for men’s national teams, to finalize the roster. Murray has been traveling across Canada evaluating and ranking players as part of his duties as Hockey Canada’s head scout.

“We are very pleased with the players we have chosen to represent Canada at the world under-18 championship,” said Murray. “We believe this is a tremendously talented group of players, and one that will proudly wear the Canadian maple leaf in Russia.”
