One Swift Current Broncos prospect will be skating in the Telus Cup next week in Arnprior, ON.

2007 fourth round, 78th overall pick, Michael Hay and the Winnipeg Thrashers clinched a spot at the National Midget Championship with a 4-3 overtime win over the Notre Dame Hounds at the West Regional tournament.

The Thrashers also won games over Thunder Bay and Superior before losing 5-1 to Notre Dame in the round robin.

The Thrashers had an impressive season as the only midget team in the country to go undefeated through the regular season and the playoffs. The Thrashers were a perfect 40-0 in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League and also ran the table in the playoffs with nine consecutive wins.

Cole Pruden notched the tournament winner in the second overtime period over the Hounds to advance the Thrashers to their first national midget tournament.

The Thrashers will begin their tournament Monday against the Calgary Buffaloes. The gold medal game is set for Sunday.

Hay registered 13 goals and 22 assists in 40 Thrashers regular season wins in which they outscored their opponents 268-43.

The Thrashers enter the Telus Cup with a 51-1 record and are only the fifth non-Saskatchewan team since 1991 to win the West Region. Thunder Bay in 1992, 1995, 1996, and 1997, and Brandon in 2004, all played in the gold medal game at the National Midget Championships after advancing out of the West Region.

The Thrashers will also be the host team of the 2009 National Midget Championships when it is held in Selkirk, MB next year.
