Small Thoughts At Large - Alan Caldwell

Round 1
At #2 overall, Portland picks Ty Rattie from Airdrie, AB.
Left Wing - 6'0", 159 lbs GP G A PTS PIM
06-07: Airdrie Xtreme (AMBHL AAA bantam) 33 26 32 58 24
06-07: Airdrie Xtreme (AMBHL AAA bantam - PLF) 4 8 2 10 4
07-08: Airdrie Xtreme (AMBHL AAA bantam) 33 75 56 131 101
07-08: Airdrie Xtreme (AMBHL AAA bantam - PLF) 10 12 11 23 16
07-08: Airdrie Xtreme (Western championships) 5 7 5 12 4
07-08: South Senators (Alberta Cup) 5 8 2 10 4

Outstanding goal scorer who can put the puck in the net from anywhere in the offensive zone. Excellent at finding the holes and getting open for a pass and a shot. Set the Alberta bantam league goalscoring record this year and is hands down the best sniper available in the draft. Had more goals by himself than the entire Camrose AMBHL team did this season. Needs a little work defensively but has a very good work ethic. Unafraid of going to the tough spots in pursuit of a goal. Projects as top-line winger. Round 2
At #23, Portland takes defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon from Surrey, B.C.
Defence - 6'0", 180 lbs GP G A PTS PIM
06-07: Cloverdale Colts (Ridge Meadows Tournament) 3 1 0 1 2
06-07: Cloverdale Colts (Victoria RC Tournament) 4 0 0 0 2
07-08: Cloverdale Colts (BCAHA AAA bantam) n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a
07-08: Cloverdale Colts (KIBIHT) 5 3 4 7

Team Captain for his Bantam team and a very powerful skater. Tyler played this year for the Cloverdale team coached by Hawks Scout Darryl Erickson.

Round 3
At #45, Portland picks winger Brayden Holloway from Wapella, SK.
Left Wing - 6'0", 157 lbs GP G A PTS PIM
06-07: Carlyle Moose Mountain Wild (SSMHL AA bantam) 25 11 22 33 26
07-08: Melville Millionaires (SSMHL AA bantam) 25 20 28 48 18

Another very good skater and a strong two-way hockey player.

I think (THINK!) that Holloway is the cousin of Seattle's Bud Holloway. They are from the same town in Saskatchewan anyway.

And at #63, Portland picks the second U.S. player in the draft, forward Cason Hohmann from Arlington, Texas:
Center - 5'7", 135 lbs GP G A PTS PIM
07-08: Texas Attack (USA AAA bantam) n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a

Small player with huge skill level. Could be the best player in the draft on skill alone but size and commitment to the WHL are major concerns.

Round 5
#106: Jessie Siemens, Richmond, B.C.
Left Wing - 5'11", 185 lbs GP G A PTS PIM
06-07: Richmond Blues (BCAHA AAA bantam) 20 13 8 21 10
07-08: Richmond Blues (BCAHA AAA bantam) 52 32 43 75 58
07-08: Richmond Blues (KIBIHT) 6 4 6 10

Team Captain in Richmond and plays a very robust, physical game with some offensive flair.
