The Brandon Sun reports that Les Borsheim, who played for the Brandon Wheat Kings from 1996-2000, is “in critical condition in a Colorado hospital following surgery after suffering a neck injury in a motorcycle crash on Sunday afternoon.” Borsheim, who played with the Central league’s Colorado Eagles, was in intesive care as of Tuesday night. . . . According to the Eagles, the Sun reported, “Borsheim underwent successful neck surgery and was in good spirits.” According to the Sun, the 29-year-old Borsheim “crashed and was thrown from his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he failed to make a right-hand curve on a rural road Sunday, according to Colorado State Patrol.” . . . The Minnesota Wild chose not to sign LW Ondrej Fiala, who played in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips and Saskatoon Blades. The Wild selected Fiala with the 40th pick of the NHL’s 2006 draft. Fiala has had some knee problems and the Wild took that into consideration when deciding not to sign him Sunday’s signing deadline. Fiala, who led the Blades with 53 points last season, now is a free agent. He is expected to play in Czech Republic.

Scout,
Any news/info on why Columbus chose not to sign Ben Wright? I believe the deadline to sign was on June 1st. My reasoning ranges from Ben's lack of speed, or Columbus having a new G.M since the '06 draft...while every other aspect about him (including captaining a previously non-playoff team to the WHL Final) seemed to have been more than enough...what about you?
Thanks.

One reason that jumps to mind in situations like this is that the Blue Jackets have undergone a regime change since Wright was drafted. He was picked by the Doug MacLean management team, and perhaps current G.M. Scott Howson and his team have a different opinion of Wright's potential. The Blue Jackets also did not sign the Broncos' Jesse Dudas. It happens....the kids get caught in the middle of these things.

Another possibility is perhaps their doctors think Wright's shoulder could become a chronic, recurring problem. If I'm not mistaken, the Jackets wanted Wright to have surgery last summer but he opted instead to rehab it without surgery. Obviously that worked out well for him last season but perhaps that soured the Jackets on him a bit. Who knows.

I agree Alan. Not sure on the Wright situation but i know the Blue Jackets were always high on Dudas. Once the new regime came with new ideas, he was no longer in the picture. Him not signing should be good news for Swift Current and his return to the Broncos next year unless he gets drafted again in 08.
