Not sure how many of you go into WHL General Discussion at the top of the forums page, but our good friend and fellow whlfans poster Alan Caldwell has started his Prospect preview. Only includes players on the protected list who did not play full time in the WHL.

BC Hockey is pleased to announce the players selected to attend the 2008 U17 Provincial Development Camp in Nanaimo July 21-26.

The intense six-day Male U17 Provincial Development Camp will aim to train and prepare British Columbia's finest male hockey players within their age group for possible selection to future provincial and national teams.

This season 48 players have been invited to attend provincial camp based on their performance at the 2008 U17 BC Cup competition, which was recently held in Mission, BC. The objectives of this year's camp are to (1) evaluate and train BC's top 16 year old athletes in preparation for the challenges of high performance hockey, both at the national and international level, and (2) to short list 18 players for potential participation with Team Pacific at the 2009 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. Of the 18 short listed players, 11 will be selected November 15 to join 11 players from Alberta, forming Team Pacific 2009.

The provincial camp represents the third stage of the BC Hockey Male High Performance Program, designed to identify and train BC’s select players born in 1992 for Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. These players have successfully performed in the two previous stages of the BC Hockey Male High Performance Program. These stages are the district selection and training camps and the recently completed U17 BC Cup competition.

The BC Hockey U17 Male High Performance Program is the first stage in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. The objective of this program is to introduce players and coaches to world international style competition and IIHF playing rules. This program assists with the identification and training of players and coaches for the National Under 18 Team, the National Junior Team and the Canadian Olympic Team.

The U17 Male High Performance Program is under the direction of Shannon Bell, Officer at Large, and Rob Rogers, Male High Performance Coordinator.

For more information about the High Performance program, please visit the BC Hockey website at www.bchockey.net or email highperformance@bchockey.net .
