With their first pick in the 2008 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, the Vancouver Giants have selected MIKHAIL FISENKO (left) from Magnitogorsk, Russian (51st overall).

Fisenko is a 6'0.5", 183 lbs. left centre who spent this past season playing for Dynamo Moscow. He was also a silver medal winner for his country at the 2008 IIHF World Under 18 Championships held in Russia last April. Also having participated for Russia at the 2007 World Junior A Challenge in Trail, BC, Fisenko is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

"Mikhail is a player who is bringing a valuable amount of experience to our organization", says Giants General Manager Scott Bonner. "We look forward to having him come into our line-up and make an immediate impact this season."

Fisenko is the first Russia-born player selected by the Giants since the club started participating in the CHL Import Draft in 2001.

With their second pick, the Giants selected ANDREJ KUDRNA from from Nove Zamky, Slovakia (58th overall). Kudrna (koo-dur-na) is a 6'0", 182 lbs. left winger who has played the last two years for Slovan Bratislava in the Slovakia Extraliga.

This past season he represented his country at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in London, Ontario. Born in 1991, Kudrna is not eligible for the NHL Entry Draft until 2009.

"Andrej is a player we are looking forward to having in our line-up the next couple of years," adds Bonner. "We have had some good success with players from Slovakia in the past and we hope Andrej can carry on that tradition."
