Wheat Kings or Rebels in second round of WHL playoffs? Hitmen need to hold tight until tomorrow night to find out

The Calgary Hitmen are still in limbo. After dispatching the Lethbridge Hurricanes in five games, the Hitmen have been sitting back, relaxing and waiting to see who they'll play in Round 2.

Calgary GM/head coach Kelly Kisio knows his club will face either Brandon or Red Deer but he'll have to wait until tomorrow night to find out which one.

Not knowing hasn't been troubling Kisio.

"They can play as long as they want," Kisio laughed when asked if he'd like to start preparing early.

"I think three or four days will be enough."

If the Rebels win Game 7 in the Gas City tomorrow, the Hitmen will have home-ice advantage when the Calgary/Red Deer series begins on the weekend.

Should the Eastern Conference's top-seeded Tigers prevail tomorrow, the Hitmen are off to Brandon to face the Wheat Kings.

So, hands up all the people who saw the Calgary Hitmen peaking as they headed to the playoffs against Lethbridge? Or more to the point . . . where was this team all season? I thought they were going to have a Tomb of the Missing Hitman many nights at the Saddledome.

Hitmen will never rekindle Red Mile

The idea that such a cameo-keepsake moment in time can somehow be replicated, or recaptured, is only a fool's hope.

Oh, there's no denying the Calgary Hitmen are hot.

They apparently can't keep enough replica jerseys in stock. They're putting 17,000 in the building. They dominate the sports pages and
Ryan Getzlaf showed sporadic Iginla-like leadership tendencies in Round 1; captain to captain.

Andrew Ladd could substitute as a younger fill-in for perennial OT hero Martin Gelinas.

Justin Pogge may not generate the same sort of unflappable security as Miikka Kiprusoff, but he's stopping plenty of pucks.
