Sorry for the late game recap...a great visit with good friends and a prolonged stay in the hot tub negated the game details up to this point. lol Anyway....

Geordie Wudrick had three assists and 17-year-old Jordan Peddle scored the game winner early in the third, as the Swift Current Broncos squeaked by the Oil Kings 4-3 in pre-season action from St. Albert.

-if one thing went un-noticed today, it was the seven-hour trek the Broncos made from home to Edmonton this morning. There were seemingly no bus legs out there...the guys asserted a good effort throughout the game and got a win...close, but still a win.

-Chad Ketting was in goal for the entire game...although not what you would call spectacular tonight, Ketting did the job.

-goals for the Broncos were scored by Magnus, Weise, Peddle, and Hay. Scorers for the Oil Kings: Craig McCallum, Clayton Cumiskey, and Shane Neigum.

-Dale Weise got things rolling by tying the game 1-1 at about 10:00 of the first period, after the Oil Kings tallied early. He even got in a scrap, sticking up for team mate Geordie Wudrick, who endured a gut-wrenching hit. Weise was tossed from the game for instigating.

-Jesse Dudas was a huge part of the Bronco defense. He does not get pushed around, and moves the puck with skill.

-shots were 29-28 in favour of Swift Current.

-Clayton Cumiskey, the Oil Kings' expansion draft pick from the Broncos last year, is a good one for Edmonton.

-scratches for the Broncos were as follows:

Mark Guggenberger
Travis Yonkman
Jordan Evans
Joel Rogers
Spencer McAvoy
David Greyeyes
Matt Tassone
Keegan Dansereau
Ryan Molle
Taylor Ernst
Justin Dowling

-most of the veteran scratches will get a turn tomorrow.

-back at it tomorrow at 3, when the Broncos take on the PG Cougars. I met the PG bus just pulling in to the rink parking lot when I left the facility......how long would the Cougars have travelled? Eight hours or so? Sick.

-this is really a nice place to be for a pre-season tournament. The rink is exactly what you need for this event...it's pretty well brand new and has some of everything. Swimming, a gym, tennis...you name it....even if you just feel like watching sports.

-their soft ice cream is really REALLY good.

...

I'm off to visit for a while yet, and then hit the hay. Broncos/Cougars tomorrow at three. Keep it locked to www.whlfans.ca after the game for a brief recap.

LET'S GO SWIFTY!!!

First road trip first game. There are still a lot of things to be worked out here which is to be expected. Although falling behind early the team continued to work hard.

There were a couple of good hits with the hardest being on Wudrick, Weise took exception and was ejected for his response. Despite the long bus ride the rookie forwards played well, their efforts were rewarded with well deserved goals.

There were a lot of odd men rushes. Something I'm sure the team will be working on next week at practice to correct.

Dudas, a skilled player, could have helped his team a lot more by moving the puck. There were a handful of times when he tried to take the puck all the way. There were definitely other options. As a seasoned vet he should know better. There is no I in team.

Ketting played well and with a lot of heart even though he knew he was returning to B.C in the morning. Don't know how this move fits into the 5 year plan up and coming young goalies are hard to find. Who knows what the future holds?

Today should be a better skating game with the team getting a good nights rest and short bus ride to the rink.

Ketting carries some baggage that his coaches over the past few years are all to familiar with.

So he is for sure going back to B.C.? I'm curious if this a 100% for sure or just an opinion sort of thing...if that's the case...Yonkman/Guggenberger as tender tandem for 08/09? Interesting!!!
