Czeching in

Rudolf Cerveny is back in Regina and joined the Pats for Thursday's practice. The 19-year-old left winger had been taking part in training camp with candidates for the Czech world junior team.
The Pats are looking for a significant jump in Cerveny's offensive production this season now that he's adjusted to life in the WHL. He had a solid rookie campaign with 10 goals and nine assists in 61 games.
Cerveny's presence should also aid the development of Slovak LW Tomas Hricina, whom Regina selected with the 27th overall pick in the 2008 CHL import draft. Hricina made his WHL debut on the weekend in Edmonton. He picked up three assists in two games.
Hricina and Cerveny are expected to see action this weekend when the Pats meet the Brandon Wheat Kings for a home-and-home set (Friday in Brandon and Saturday at the Brandt Centre).

GM Brent Parker indicated Thursday that nothing is imminent on the trade front. Parker does have some irons in the fire and would like to get something done soon, but he's not convinced that his shopping list will be complete before the regular season begins on Sept. 19. Of course, that could easily change.
The Pats are looking to sort out their crowded crease and add an impact player or two in the process. The most obvious need is for a veteran centre or left winger, but don't be surprised if talks heat up with the Calgary Hitmen about D Alex Plante, who has demanded a trade. The addition of Plante would give Regina one of the more formidable bluelines in the WHL.
