DePape, Elder released

Media release:
Regina, Saskatchewan – 20 year old forwards Josh Elder and Ryan DePape have cleared Western Hockey League waivers, and have been outright released from the Regina Pats. DePape was released from the club two weeks ago, while Elder was granted his release this past weekend. That leaves the Pats with 3 overage players, Victor Bartley, Michael MacAngus and Scott Doucet.
There are currently 28 players (15 forwards, 9 defencemen and 4 goaltenders) on the roster that will face the Saskatoon Blades this weekend. Friday night the two will meet at 7pm at the Brandt Centre. 24 hours later, the two will do it again at 7:05 at the Credit Union Centre.

Pats/WHL update/more trade talk

The trade winds continue to blow around the Regina Pats.
The lastest scuttlebutt from out west has Regina talking to the Vancouver Giants about a minor deal. The Pats could use some help on the left side, preferably an 18- or 19-year-old. The Giants have a glut of players who fall in that category, including Adam Basford, Craig Cunningham and Mitch Czibere. Vancouver probably won't be able to keep them all, so the Pats would appear to be a likely destination.
Regina, meanwhile, is still carrying a surplus of goalies. The Everett Silvertips have reportedly shown interest. The Pats have also talked to the Calgary Hitmen about holdout D Alex Plante, but Regina is certain to have competition for his services.
Since GM Brent Parker is believed to have more than one iron in the fire, it's quite possible that one trade could lead to others.
"We’re certainly talking to some teams about some things," he said Wednesday. "I don’t know if we’ve made any progress in terms of getting where we want to go but we’re certainly pursuing some things and trying to move forward."

Just to clarify the news regarding 20-year-old forwards Ryan DePape and Josh Elder, both are free to sign with a team of their choosing (WHL, junior A, pro, etc.). Both were put on waivers by the Pats, but they weren't claimed, which makes them free agents.
Elder underwent tests on his injured knee on Friday and it was determined that he simply needs more time to heal after suffering damage to the medial collateral ligament late last season.
The Pats are still holding onto the rights to C Kirt Hill, who's out with a broken thumb.
"I talked to Kirt today," said Parker. "He hasn’t been put on waivers yet. We’re kind of waiting to see if anything comes about there. Obviously, as I said to him, we’ve got some time because of his injury. I want to make sure from our end, too, that we’re properly dealing with his injury. We want that to be looked after before we send him on his way."
