One is coming and another is going. Tyler Johnson has been returned to the Chiefs by the Phoenix Coyotes while defensman Trevor Glass is going to attend the Rockford IceHogs camp and will miss this weekend’s home opener.

Johnson was originally an undrafted, free agent invitee to the Coyotes rookie camp and earned the opportunity to stay an extra week at their main camp. Johnson missed the Chiefs first two games of the season.

The Spokane native was named the Western Hockey League Finals MVP after scoring three goals in four games, including game winners in games three and four, and a shorthanded goal against the Lethbridge Hurricanes last year. In 2007-08, Johnson led Chiefs rookies with 69 games, 13 goals and 35 points.

Glass will be attending the IceHogs AHL camp as a free-agent invitee. Rockford is the American Hockey League affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks and is coached by former Chiefs coach Bill Peters.

Glass is in his fifth season in the WHL and has played 192 regular season games, 59 playoff games and another eight in the Memorial Cup. Glass scored Spokane’s third goal, his only of the Memorial Cup, in a 4-1 win over the Kitchener Rangers in the final game to help the Chiefs win the championship.

With Glass leaving and Johnson returning, Spokane is currently without six veterans who are eligible to return to Spokane; Glass, Justin Falk (Minnesota Wild’s camp), Jared Spurgeon (NY Islander’s camp), Justin McCrae and Drayson Bowman (both at Carolina’s camp). Ondrej Roman is still waiting for his release in the Czech Republic.

Carolina’s website has said that Bowman will be in the line-up on Wednesday night when the Hurricanes take the ice for their first game of the pre-season.

The Chiefs and The Black Book by Hagadone Directories will hand out replica mini-Memorial Cup banners to the first 3,000 fans, and all full season ticket holders, through the gates when Spokane hosts the Tri-City Americans for their first home game of the year.

The pre-game ceremonies, which will begin at 7:00, will consist of special tributes that include the Ed Chynoweth and Memorial Cups, videos, player introductions and the dropping of the championship banners.

Tickets to all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
