Kinda seems wierd that a project as big as the one planned for the CCC hasn't started yet, or hasn't even been in the media a lot. Whats up with this? Anybody have some answers?

I actually talked to one of the alderman at the Legionaires alumni meeting. He said they are re-drawing the plans because what they invisioned shot way over budget. I think it is back to the drawing board.

I wonder how hard its going to be to get construction crews with all the new building going on, such as the hospital, casino, best western, and my personal favourate, the brand spanking new liquor store. :thumb:

I've been hearing that the city has been hiring companies outside the city for all this construction, yeah this city just might be growing.
Also anybody know if you can buy tickets for the phantom east end seats. Me and my dad were wondering so i figured i'd throw it out here.

Would have to. With all starting at roughly the same time, I doubt there would be enough skilled workers here to fill the positions. About time the city started to grow, it's been stagnent for 30 years. I'm looking forward to it. :bounce:

Best place to find out would be the Bronco office.

The expansion on the CCC was announced today on sports this it is on hold. As i said earlier they have went way over budget and have to re-look at ways to cut back. They are still hoping to start in August 05 with completion in Sept.06.

The plans are back on the drawing board? While as a tax payer I can appreciate wanting to make this project as cheap as possible I can only hope that we don't compromise the finished product to save a buck.

For centuries the crown jewel of any dynasty has been the arena. You can go back to the days of gladiators and see over time that mentality has not changed. The Saddledome is a great example of this. It is Calgary's crown jewel (don't tell me that dink shaped tower with a restaurant no one can afford to eat at is).

The arena is a reflection on the community and should be a monument people can be proud of. I understand the budget for the Civic Center project is 7 million dollars. Seven million to expand the existing Civic Center and add a curling facility? Yorkton has had a similar project on the go for a while and they're at 20 million. Don't get too excited cause 7 million won't get us much.

The crown jewel of this group of elected officials on Swift Current city council is a 13 million dollar plant to treat excrement. Their legacy will be being known as ****ty Council.

I heard the problem in "cutting back" is between the Broncos and the curling club. Neither wants their portion to be the one cut back to fit the budget. That's not surprising, so it will be interesting to see the final result. I am caught in the middle as I support both sports. :(

I am sure whatever the compromise it will still end up as a great facility.

While I spent a winter at the stockade hurling rocks at a broom and enjoy the sport of curling this should be a no brainer.

Two sides not wanting to budge and compromise their part in the new Civic Center. Let's see what they bring to the table:

The Swift Current Broncos WHL Franchise;

The Broncos attract people from other cities and all over the southwest more than 40 times a year. The Broncos are a VITAL part of the ecomomy not just in Swift Current but in Southwest Saskatchewan. The Bronco organization provides local jobs. The Broncos will likely attract an average of 2000 fans a game next year, not to mention they provide the Southwest with something we've always lacked. The intangible sense of pride.

The Curling Club;

A sport besides bowling and fishing to play while drunk.

No brainer. Let's get to work!!!

but if they started the construction in Aug, and it went on through Oct of the next year, wouldn't that interfere with the Bronco season? Kinda seems like a wierd timetable, but heh, if it means more improvements i ain't gonna complain.

I don't think any of the construction will affect the existing seating or the ice surface. The only problem I see is in parking and we all know how that is at the CCC.

Maybe i'm completely off on this but, are saying they are gonna start the wraparound this aug. or the curling, or what. It sounded to me like they would be starting on the rink at that time, and when they wrap around the end then sections I and Q need to be taken out and curved to the ice surface. That would mess up the rink a touch.
And parking, it already sucks. Do what i do. I don't stress about having to park in Pattersons parking lot. And i'm usually one of the last people to leave the rink after the game, (good time to talk to other bronco fans about what just happened, and it saves from being stuck in traffic)

Traffic!!! :thumb: I just wish it was worse. That would mean we had a full building .
I usually sit and listen to the after game show on 94.1 and by the time it gets to "the crunch of the night" 90% of the vehicles are gone.
