To no surprise the Hitmen have finally announced that they released Spence.

Western Hockey League All-Star Joins Sting

Sarnia, ON – Sarnia Sting General Manager Alan Millar announced this evening that the club has signed goaltender Dan Spence.

Spence an overage goalie has spent the past four seasons with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Spence posted an impressive career WHL regular season record of 77-49-3-6-2 while posting a goals against average of 2.46. During his time in Calgary Spence set several franchise records including most wins, games played, minutes played and saves.

Spence appeared in six games with the Hitmen this season and currently sits fourth in the WHL with a goals against average of 1.98.

“The opportunity to add a player with Dan’s experience and impressive track record was something our hockey club had to pursue.” Millar stated.

The impressive track record includes being named a second team WHL All-Star in 2007/08 as well as appearing in 32 playoff games over the past two seasons highlighted by leading the Hitmen to the Conference Finals in 2007.

The 20-year old from Langley BC was also a top performer for the club off the ice spending countless hours in the community as he was named the 2007/08 Hitmen Humanitarian of the Year.

With the acquisition of Spence subsequently the team has announced that goaltender Matt Hache has been released.

“We thank Matt for his dedication to the Sting organization and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” Millar added.
