What is the seating capacity of their arena?

What is the seating capacity of their arena?

7,500 ish, but they have a very strong ticket base, and may well max out the 6000 or so seats at their disposal with their season ticket holders for a memorial cup (remember 1500-1700 tickets go to the CHL for the teams and VIP's).

It could be a much tougher ticket than even London and Kelowna in the past couple of years.

Well I guess I can cross that one off my list and just continue my plans to go to World Juniors in Sweden in 2007! I just hope Calgary gets it when it is in the Dub next time! Plenty of seating there!

I wouldn't be surprised to see an East Division team get in in 2007.

Who would you think it would go to?Or which WHL would have the best chance of hosting the cup?

Well, since the last Memorial Cup hosted by the WHL was in the West, easy thought is to put it somewhere more Easterly or even somehow centralize it. We'll see-- just an out of the blue prediction.

Spokane hosted in 1998 (the Western Conference, US Division)

Regina hosted in 2001 (the Eastern Conference Eastern Division)

Kelowna hosted in 2004. (the Western Conference BC Division)

? ? ? hosts in 2007. (the Eastern Conference Central Division) ? ? ?

Do I see a pattern here? :thumb:

I could see Calgary go for it, 10,000+ fans a game this year.

You could put 19,600 people in the rink

This city like's any event they can get their hands on

it would be tough for calgary to host it due to the flames and the nhl tough to say what will happen.

it also means 2010 a US team gets it...or they might through that pattern off and place it in Vancouver along with the Olympics...that would have no seat shortage, the could play in the Olympic or Canucks arena...

Not true.

During the 1988 Winter Olympics, the Saddledome was all Olympics.

And if there was a problem with the Flames being still in the Stanley Cup playoffs that late in the year, they could always have the round robin games in the Corral, and the Finals in the Dome. Those last two games the NHL would have to let the CHL have. It would be bad publicity (and they need as much good publicity as they can get nowadays).

A goodwill jesture, if you will.

I agree also and I think If Medicine Hat was wanting to host the Memorial Cup in 2007 then I think they are in need of a serious arena upgrade or change. As for Saskatoon hosting the Memmorial cup in 2007 would be a great event for the team and for the city of Saskatoon and for any other team and city that hosted the Memorial cup. The owner and Govoner of the Blades Jack Brodsky said that he will make a bid, if he feels that the team is in good contention to make it all the way to the Memorial cup.

i would say that cgy and van have the inside track because of the seating capacities of their rinks. the flames own the hitman and their schedule would be reworked or they may play a game or two in RD or Leth if the flames need the rink.

Believe it or not, the Flames would have to schedule around the Memorial Cup in that situation.

The host for the Memorial Cup will be determined long before the NHL season even begins. If Calgary were named the host, they would set the schedule for the tournament, probably with an extra open day or two just in case, but the NHL would have to schedule around the existing events.

As an example: the Flames-Sharks series last year was totally screwed up because of already booked events in both the Saddledome and the HP Pavillion.

The absolute worst case scenario is a tournament game in the afternoon, and the Flames playoff game in the evening. And personally, I like the idea of a hockey doubleheader. :D

Why would the Hitmen move a game to Red Deer or Lethbridge when there is an 8600 seat arena right across the street from the Saddledome?

Believe me. The Flamers would be out long before the Memorial cup. No worries at all! ;)

To expand a bit on the pattern of "rotating" the MC in the WHL as posted by The Vulk:

The pattern is only recent - just since 1998 and may be just a coincidence. Here is the list of WHL hosts since the Memorial Cup adopted a tournament format in 1972:

1974 - Calgary
1977 - Vancouver
1980 - Regina and Brandon
1983 - Portland (first time the host was automatically in)
1986 - Portland
1989 - Saskatoon
1992 - Seattle
1995 - Kamloops
1998 - Spokane
2001 - Regina
2004 - Kelowna
