KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has acquired 19-year-old defenseman Scott Maetche (pro. Met-key) from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.

Appearing in nine games this season for the Hitmen, the 6'2, 167-pound defenseman from Lacombe, Alberta was originally drafted in the third-round (58th overall) in the 2004 Bantam Draft by the Moose Jaw Warriors. Maetche made his WHL debut in the 2006-07 season with the Chilliwack Bruins, appearing in 64 games and recording three assists with 60 penalty minutes. Last season, Maetche split time with the Bruins and the Grand Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He played in 27 games for the Storm, collecting six assists, as the Storm finished second in the North Division and advanced to the Quarterfinals of the AJHL Playoffs.

"With only six defensemen on our roster and, a shortage of experienced D-men in the Leauge, it was important that we make a deal," Tory explained. "We want to thank Calgary for their willingness to make the deal and we are pleased to welcome Scott into the organization."

Maetche will join the team tonight in Vancouver, when Tri-City faces-off against the Vancouver Giants.

After their brief two-game road trip, the Americans will head back home for a weekend double header. Up first is the Portland Winter Hawks on Friday, October 31. Then, on Saturday, November 1, the rival Seattle Thunderbirds make a return appearance to the Toyota Center. Both games start at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Toyota Center box office, all Fred Meyer locations, or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that newly acquired defenseman Scott Maetche has chosen to retire from hockey.

Citing medical concerns, the 6'2, 167-pound defenseman from Lacombe, Alberta has chosen to retire from the sport rather than risk further injury. Maetche, who was traded to Tri-City from Calgary on October 29, appeared in one game for the Americans, but suffered his latest injury in a contest against the Vancouver Giants. With this announcement, Tri-City will retain their seventh-round pick in the 2009 Bantam Draft, which was sent to Calgary in the deal for Maetche.

Originally drafted in the third-round (58th overall) in the 2004 Bantam Draft by the Moose Jaw Warriors, Maetche made his WHL debut in the 2006 with the Chilliwack Bruins, appearing in 64 games and recording three assists with 60 penalty minutes.

The Americans are preparing for a busy week at the Toyota Center. Up first, the Kelowna Rockets visit on Tuesday, November 4. Then, the Kamloops Blazers come to town on Friday, November 7. Both games start at 7:05 p.m. After spending Saturday night in Spokane where the Americans will take on the Chiefs, Tri-City will return home on Sunday for a match-up with the Red Deer Rebels. Game time is a special 5:05 p.m. start. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Toyota Center box office, all Fred Meyer locations, or online at ticketmaster.com.
