The visiting Everett Silvertips, were outplayed, outchanced, and outshot yet still managed a 3-2 win over the host Swift Current Broncos to extend the Broncos season-high losing streak to four games on Friday night.

“It is really disappointing, I thought that we outplayed them for the most part in that game,” said Broncos defenseman Eric Doyle. “We just had a few little mistakes and it ended up costing us.”

The Broncos outshot the Silvertips 28-19 overall, including a 9-2 margin in the second period, but failed to capitalize on a multitude of scoring chances to fall in the two teams’ only meeting of the season.

Justin Dowling, 18, scored both Broncos’ goals, his eighth and ninth of the campaign.

The Broncos powerplay failed to capitalize on five opportunities and surrendered their third shorthanded of the season in the first period.

“It was pretty frustrating, we knew coming into this game that they blocked a lot of shots,” said Doyle. “Especially on the powerplay it seemed like every time you wound up one or two guys were dropping down so it was hard to find a shooting lane.”

Byron Froese scored shorthanded, Zach Dailey scored at even-strength, and Kyle Beach sealed the game with a powerplay marker for the Silvertips who were playing their final game of their East Division swing.

Dowling admitted that it was a very disappointing loss.

“Everyone is pretty down in the room right now. I think we outplayed them, we outshot them, and we outchanced them too. It is difficult when we can’t get the win out of that and having all those shots on net and creating chances.”

Early in the third period with the game tied 1-1 Broncos forward Jordan Peddle was involved in a scary mid-ice collision that left him motionless on the ice. After a long delay Peddle was taken off the ice on a stretcher. Dowling said it was tough to recover from that incident.

“As soon as he got hit it just went dead silent on the bench, you could hear a pin drop. It kind of gives you chills in your spine to see him just lying there, not moving. He wasn’t doing anything, he wasn’t blinking. It was really scary seeing that. We kind of wanted to win that for Peds going in there after that. I don’t know, it was unfortunate we couldn’t get it.”

Only moments after play resumed Dailey put the Silvertips ahead 2-1 followed soon after by Beach’s powerplay goal.

Silvertips rookie goaltender Kent Simpson stopped 26 of 28 shots to post his sixth win of the season.

Broncos overage netminder Travis Yonkman is now 5-2 on the season after giving up three goals on 19 shots.

Everett improves to 11-8-3-0 to sit third in the U.S. Division and they close out their East Division road swing with a 3-1-2-0 record.

The Broncos remain third in the East Division with a 14-9-0-0 record. Sunday the Broncos will be in Saskatoon to face the Blades.

Broncos Bits: the Broncos played without forwards Jan Dalecky and Brad Hoban and defensemen Derek Claffey and Andrew Hewett due to injury. Forward Matt Tassone returned to the lineup after missing five games since suffering a shoulder injury against Prince Albert on Oct. 31st. With an assist on Dowling's first period goal defenseman Eric Doyle continues to lead the Broncos in scoring with 22 points in 23 games and is second among all WHL defenseman in points and assists. With nine goals in 22 games Dowling has surpassed the seven he scored in 71 games last season as a rookie with the Broncos.
