RISING

Sergey Chvanov - Cherepovets
Position: F Height: 5.10 Weight: 165
Chvanov turned in an absolutely dominant performance all week at the Jr. A Challenge, outshining the more highly touted Russian forwards. Captain of the Russian team. A solid player at both ends of the rink. He possesses that innate ability to find seams in the defensive zone and capitalize on the opportunities that he garners from that trait. His competitiveness and his strong leadership are other traits that we love. He can score important goals to lift his team.

Mac Bennett - Hotchkiss HS
Position: LD Height: 6.00 Weight: 180
Generating a lot of buzz lately with NHL scouts Bennett is an ultra-smooth puck-carrying d-man. Flying under most people's radar playing for a Connecticut prep
school, a tremendous skater with long powerful strides. Reminds you somewhat of Paul Coffey. Great offensive instincts. Carries the puck very well, good hands, head upright and doesn’t lose a step when he has the puck. In fact, because of the urgency he has with the puck, perhaps he skates even faster.
University of Michigan, 2010-11 (Verbal)

Calvin de Haan - Oshawa Generals
Position: LD Height: 6.00 Weight: 170
de Haan, a rookie with the Generals, is making a smooth transition from the CJHL to the OHL. He is a steady defender who uses his stick effectively, plays
between the dots vs. the rush keeping opposition forwards to the outside. Does a nice job of getting shot of from the point through traffic to the net and
has recorded 9 points in first 7 games of 2008-09 season.

Kellan Tochkin - Everett
Position: RW Height: 5.09 Weight: 176
Creative little right wing has been handling the rough going in the WHL better than we expected and is a productive offensive force every night. Has soft, quick hands and is very dangerous around the net. Tremendous hockey sense and offensive awareness. Sparkplug is a fierce competitor who never stops moving his feet and plays bigger than his size.

Dmitri Kulikov - Drummondville
Position: LD Height: 6.01 Weight: 195
Big, smooth, skilled blue-liner is starting to put it all together and showing he has more offensive upside than we gave him credit for. Good skater with mobility.
Jumps into the play - good offensive instincts. He has excellent puck skills and makes the right play most of the time. Also he has displayed the ability to get his
shot through on the power play. Good slap shot. Very good power-play quarterback.

Taylor Beck - Guelph Storm
Position: LW Height: 6.01 Weight: 207
Beck was on our radar from last season as a player to watch, but he's really exceeded all expectations this season. His size and two-way ability have him steadily climbing on our list. He is not the most skilled guy, but he has a great work ethic. He needs to continue to work on his first few strides. He is very aware of his defensive responsibilities and is always going to the wall to pick up pucks. He is not afraid to drive the net and look for rebounds.

FALLING

Zach Budish - Edina (Min HS)
Position: C Height: 6.02.5 Weight: 229
Word came out a couple weeks ago that power forward Zach Budish is done for the season after being diagnosed with a torn ACL. Budish, who has made a
verbal commitment to play hockey for the Gophers, underwent surgery Nov. 9 and is expected to be sidelined for at least four months. With such a serious
injury, expect NHL GM’s to back off selecting him in the first round, shouldn’t fall past second round.

Justin Maylan - Prince George Cougars
Position: C Height: 6.01 Weight: 160
A lot of hype surrounded this young center drafted by Moose Jaw, 1st round, 17th overall in 2006 Bantam Draft. He was traded to the Cougars in the Ty Wishart
trade. Needs to be more active defensively. Lazy backchecks and poor slot support during zone play. Has a good skill set. He needs to create more offensively. Seemed invisible most nights despite lots of ice time.

Steven Anthony - Saint John
Position: C/LW Height: 6.02 Weight: 205
We just can't continue to wait for him to blossom. Player showed a few spurts but overall has not been impressive. Has speed, size and talent, however he
still needs to work harder, with more stops and starts rather than wide circles. Player was not physical, but did not shy away. Saint John's 1st round pick, 10th
overall in 2007 (QMJHL).

Brandon MacLean - PEI
Position: LW Height: 6.00 Weight: 184
Simply not making any progression in his game. Looked like an offensive stud two years ago, but not showing much instinct at offensive end now. This
player needs to get his nose dirty to be effective and when he does, he helps his team. Problem is he doesn’t do this consistently.
