Keith Aulie's first goal of the season turned out to be a big one for the Brandon Wheat Kings Saturday night.

Aulie scored with 12.8 seconds left in the third period to lift Brandon to a 3-2 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Wheat Kings turned in a solid performance from start to finish, outshooting the Tigers 32-21 and hitting three posts/crossbars during the course of the contest.

Jay Fehr had the other two goals for Brandon, #'s 9 and 10 on the season for him while he also assisted on Aulie's winner.

The game appeared headed to overtime when Sean Ringrose scored for Medicine Hat with 3:53 left in the third period, setting the stage for Aulie's late-game heroics.

Zdenek Okol scored the other goal for the Tigers, scoring the 'Teddy Bear Toss' goal at 17:33 of the first period.

There were two things particularly impressive about the Wheat Kings' handing Medicine Hat just their second regulation loss at home this season.

#1 - the Wheat Kings looked to be more willing to shoot the puck on net. Ironically, I had talked to Brandon assistant coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk about getting more shots in our pre-game interview and discussed trying to 10-12 per period (30-36 per game). Brandon had been below 30 shots in 8 of their previous 11 games before Saturday.

#2 - It seemed the club has more energy, more urgency and a little more confidence, perhaps trying to dictate the game to their opponents rather than the other way around.

Brandon's penalty-kill was 3-for-3 Saturday including being down two men for 1:11 in the second period.

Andrew Hayes was solid in the Brandon net with 19 saves while Ryan Holfeld made 29 stops for Medicine Hat.

Brandon concludes their Alberta road trip Sunday night when they visit the Calgary Hitmen (5:45 p.m. CKLQ).

Chaff...Brandon scratches Saturday were F Jesse Hall (knee, day-to-day), F Del Cowan, F Jordan Hale, D Ryley Miller and D Mark Schneider...F Scott Glennie extended his point-scoring streak to eight gams (8 G, 5 A)...F Andrew Clark had his point streak stopped at five games (3 G, 5 A)...Brandon is now 12-for-13 on the penalty-kill and 7-for-19 on the power-play in their last six games.
