The Kamloops Blazers were seeing stars, physically and literally, on Saturday night.

Jamie Benn scored two goals for Kelowna, his 45th and 46th goals of the season, as the Rockets ran over the Kamloops Blazers 7-1 in WHL action on Saturday. For the game, a fight-filled affair, the Rockets wore one-time uniforms with stars on them that were later given away.

The game‘s highlight – or lowlight, pending the point of view – was a third-period fracas that included each team‘s goaltender trading punches at centre ice. Blazers netminder Jon Groenheyde won the fight, but Adam Brown‘s Rockets were the clear game winners.

“(Groenheyde) was standing at the blue-line and I asked him if he wanted to go,” said Brown. “He said ’Yeah, come here.‘ So I kinda went. It wasn‘t the smartest idea, but stuff happens.”

Ian Duval, with two, Evan Bloodoff, Ryley Grantham plus Stepan Novotny also scored for Kelowna (46-21-1-3), which led 3-0 and 4-0 at the period breaks. Duval‘s goals were his 23rd and 24th markers of the season.

With the win, the Rockets swept their season series with the Blazers, going 9-0.

C.J. Stretch, with his 29th, replied for Kamloops (33-33-2-4), which also lost to the Rockets on Friday night, 6-4. In that contest, the Blazers were outshot 45-18. On Saturday, Kelowna again held a big advantage, 39-19.

ICE CHIPS: Kelowna‘s scratches were RW Kyle St. Denis (concussion) plus LW Lucas Bloodoff and C Mikael Backlund. The Rockets say Bloodoff and Backlund needed rest to heal minor bumps and bruises.
