Canucks Sign Taylor Ellington to NHL Contract
Veteran Silvertips defenseman receives three-year entry level deal

Everett, WA - Everett Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced Monday that defenseman Taylor Ellington has been signed to a three-year entry level contract by the NHL's Vancouver Canucks. Ellington, 20, was selected in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Known for his rugged and defensive mindset, Ellington completed the 2008-09 regular season with career highs in all offensive categories, posting 6 goals and 26 assists for 32 points along with 130 penalty minutes. Throughout his five-year Everett career, the Victoria, BC native scored 14 goals and added 52 assists for 64 points and 371 penalty minutes.
Standing in at 6'2 and weighing 209 pounds, Ellington received several accolades throughout his junior career, including invitations to the 2006 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge and the 2007 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game. He served as an alternate captain for the Silvertips in the 2008-09 season, taking home the Co-Most Valuable Player Award as chosen by the Silvertips coaching staff.
With Ellington's signing, all three Silvertips from the 2007 NHL Draft class have now been signed, including forwards Zach Hamill and Dan Gendur.
Ellington ranks first in franchise history with 287 regular season games played. He was originally selected by the Silvertips in the third round of the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft, a draft that eventually produced NHL draft picks in Zach Hamill (1st - Boston), Peter Mueller (1st - Phoenix), Leland Irving (1st - Calgary) and Brady Calla (4th - Florida), all of whom have signed with their respective clubs.
