Clark to Take Over Cougars

The WHL's Prince George Cougars will hold a news conference this afternoon to unveil Dean Clark as their new head coach.

The Cougars will be the fourth WHL team Clark will be behind the bench for after previous stints in Calgary, Brandon and Kamloops.

Clark holds a 382-253-61 career record over 12 seasons of coaching in the WHL including an 86-40-18 record in two season with Brandon in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003.

Clark, who has been out of the WHL since being let go as Kamloops' GM/Coach in November of 2007, will take over behind the bench for Wade Klippenstein

Klippenstein is expected to remain with the team as an assistant coach and assistant general manager.

He had been interim head coach of the Cougars for the final 43 games of last season after the club relieved Drew Schoeneck of his duties on December 1st.

Does anyone know what kind of coach he is? Will this young team respond to his style of coaching?

During his time in Brandon, i personally liked him and was a fan of what he did for this oganization. Maybe the success wasn't totally there as much as one would hope but he is a great coach! I was pretty good friends with quite a few of the players from that era and they all thought he was a great coach and i never heard much negative...

I need to correct myself, I said there wasnt much success with Clark in Brandon but I stand corrected. Brandon lost in the East finals in Clarks one and only season in Brandon. The Wheat Kings wanted him back but he left due to family reasons and it was a mutual thing. You got yourself a great coach, hopefully he keeps Joe Caliguri

He had nothing to work with in Kamloops! The team wasn't great and really, they havent gotten any better since he left. When he coached in Calgary the team was always one of the best in the league but always fell short to the powerhouse Rebels. And then when he came to Brandon, same thing the Rebels ended Clarks run. He may not have much more to work with in P.G. but for a team struggling with wins, this is a step in the right direction bringing a classy guy like Dean Clark in. He will not be any worse in any way then what you already have had in the past years...
