Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades select Centre Ryan Olsen 20th overall in the WHL Bantam Draft.
Assistant General Manager Jarrod Brodsky comments on Olsen “Ryan is a powerful skater that competes hard when he is on the ice. He is always around the net and has good puck handling abilities. He is a kid that we really concentrated on at the B.C Cup in Salmon Arm and are thrilled to have picked Ryan 20th overall in the first round”.

Ryan Olsen Statistics:
GP: 60 G: 67 A: 65 PTS: 132
Height: 5’10
Weight: 145lbs
Shoots: Right handed

Not bad numbers and he did well in some of the tournaments to apparently so curious to see him in the fall at camp.

In one mock draft, he was ranked in the first round so sounds like a good pick but we'll have to see.

The Saskatoon Blades, in the 3rd round, have selected Tommy Stipancik with their 60th overall selection.

This selection came from the Spokane Chiefs from the 2008 trade involving Justin McCrae.
Stipancik, a 6’0”, 155 pound defenseman was born in Vancouver, B.C on September 10th, 1994.
“Tommy is a big defenseman who can skate. He is very poised with the puck and makes smart decisions on the ice” commented Blades Assistant GM Jarrod Brodsky.
The Saskatoon Blades are proud to welcome Tommy Stipancik and his family to the organization.

The Saskatoon Blades, in the 4th round, have selected Adam Todd with their 86th overall selection.
Todd, a 6’2”, 165 pound Goaltender was born in Courtenay, B.C on May 2nd, 1994. As of March 15, Adam played 18 games compiling a record of 15 wins and 3 losses.

“Adam is a strong technical goalie that covers the angles good and challenges the shooters. He is very athletic and uses his stick well. ” commented Blades Assistant GM Jarrod Brodsky.

in the 5th round, have selected Brett Stovin with their 90th overall selection acquired from Vancouver and Mike Statchuk with their 108th overall selection.
Stovin, a 5’11”, 150 pound Right Winger was born in Stony Mountain, MB on October 31st, 1994. Stovin statistics for this past season with the Interlake Bantam AA Lightning were GP: 24 G: 45 A: 23 PTS 68
“Brett is a good sized player, skates extremely well. He is very strong on the wall, finds the open ice, has good skills and is a player that constantly works hard all the time.” commented Blades MB Scout Russ Kutzak.
Statchuk, a 5’10”, 170 pound defenseman was born in Wadena, SK on April 4th, 1994. Statchuck played 18 games in Tisdale for the Bantam Ramblers, scoring 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points.
“Mike is a good skater who plays a simple and steady game. He sees the ice well, moves the puck and plays with an edge.” Commented Blades Assistant GM Jarrod Brodsky

The Saskatoon Blades completed the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft by Selecting 5 more players from round 8 on, including selecting 2 players in round ten.
In the 8th round, Blades scouts selected Devan Fafard 174th overall. Asst General Manager Jarrod Brodsky comments that the 5’10, 155 lb d-man from Carlyle; “was the captain of his Moose Mountain team and is a steady defenseman who moves the puck well and has a grittiness to his game”.
In the 9th round, the Blades selected 5’10, 160, RW Hudson Morrison out of Brandon MB. Brodsky commented that Hudson “really played well at the Directors Cup last month in Dauphin, and that he is a big winger who possesses a very hard shot and plays a very physical style of game”.
Round 10 saw the Blades land 2 players. At the 209th overall pick, the Blades nabbed Brodyn Nielsen from Garibaldi Highlands, BC. Brodsky commented that the 5’10”, 157 lb, left handed shot centre; “was a good skater who was always around the net” and that Nielsen had “an outstanding work ethic”. With their 2nd pick in round 10, the Blades called upon Tyler Santos from Sherwood Park, AB. “Santos is a smaller goalie who is tremendously quick and challenges shooters” commented Brodsky. The Blades Asst General Manager went on to comment that “Santos competes very hard and comes highly recommended by Blades goaltending coach John Stephenson”.
Rounding out the Blades selections was Turner Lawson, a 5’10”, 160 lb, right handed centre from Kelowna, BC. Brodsky states that Lawson is, “a very good 2 way forward. He is very strong kid who works hard and has some skill”.

That Brodyn Nielsen is an unreal player and could be our best draft pic.clrkthj
