Went thru the past drafts for P.G. starting with 2004 -
Identified players who are still with, or in Dana's case, could have been with the Cougars going into this coming season.

2004 produced a 1 for 11 ( Dana Tyrell )
2005 produced an 0 for 12
2006 produced a 1 for 14 ( Art Bidlevski )
2007 has produced a 4 for 12 ( Connolly, McDonald, Bounassisi, Fraser all played last year, and 5 more players are still listed with the team).

Essentially in 4 drafts the team has 5 out of 49 players possible coming back for 2009/10. A 12% result..is this normal for Jr Hockey? How does a group of scouts keep their jobs with this kind of performance?

At least 2007/8/9 look to be improved since all 9 first/second/and third round picks have signed at least.

It makes sense that the Cougars would have more players from their most recent draft years still on the roster. They really haven't been evaluated for as long to determine their strength in the league and few teams would be willing to take a chance on a trade. 2006 was a brutal year for the Cougar draft as several players including Stefan Elliot and goalie Kirby Halcrow refused to report.

As a comparison, players who are still likely to be with the Rockets going into this coming season:

2004 - 1 for 10 Colin Long (likely to go: Almond)
2005 - 2 for 8 Brandon McMillan, Evan Bloodoff (likely to go: Myers)
2006 - 5 for 10 (Barrie, Bowman, Borejko, Verdino, Gogol)
2007 - 1 for 11 so far (Main (2 others have each made 3 appearances: Adolph & Bulmer))

9 out of 39 players is a 23% success rate.

I'd say that's pretty good drafting by Moose Jaw, Kelowna, and Regina that year. Teams at the bottom (of this table), like Red Deer, Calgary, and Prince George, they may be a little weak in the '91 age group due to a poor draft...
