Warriors 4 Broncos 3

The Broncos got out of the gates really slow while a determined Moose Jaw Warriors took advantage of some sloppy play to go up 4-0 early in the 2nd period.

The Broncos found their legs in the third period but it was too little, too late. Final score 4-3. Alex Sirard looked sharp in the Broncos goal after taking over for Austin Smith midway through the 2nd period with his team down 4-0.

The Moose Jaw Warriors held on to defeat the Swift Current Broncos 4-3 in exhibition action.

The Warriors scored two first period goals as Jakub Herman and Thomas Frazee scored. Moose Jaw outshot Swift Current 12-5.

In the second period, it much of the same as the Warriors continued their strong play scoring twice more as Corey Scott and Cody Smuk tallied and it was 4-0 Warriors before the second was 7 minutes old. The Broncos switched goaltenders midway through the middle frame as Alex Sirard replaced Austin Smith.

In the third period the Broncos came out with jump as Michael Hat, Dillon Wagner and Jordan Peddle all scored in the first 10 minutes but the Warriors held on as the Broncos were on the power-play late with the goalie pulled but couldn't equalize.

Warriors 4 @ Broncos 3 EX.

It took the Swift Current Broncos two periods to intensify on Friday night at the i-Plex. Facing a 4-0 deficit early in the third period of their first home exhibition game, they finally put the work boots on. The Broncos scored three goals and brought the score close, but eventually lost 4-3 to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.

One could stake the claim that the Warriors put most of their eggs in one basket for this exhibition matchup. Mostly, they iced a veteran squad...only two of their veteran players took a seat tonight, including Connor Cox and Brendan Rowinski. Was it a move to attempt a reverse of their ill fortunes versus Swift Current? Maybe. One win...be it exhibition, regular season or playoffs can do a lot for a team's confidence. The Warriors no doubt were prepared to play though. They hit hard in the first two periods and bewildered the Broncos a bit. Moose Jaw stopped hitting in the third and that caused some problems for them, as the Broncos took over the game and finally got some offense.

On the flip side, the Broncos went mostly with their young guns...and gave them lots of ice time. Eight rookies were seeing regular shifts out there. The Broncos' scratches included G. Morgan Clark, D. Derek Claffey, F. Michael Stickland, F. Geordie Wudrick, F. Justin Dowling, F. Dane Muench, D. Reece Scarlett, and F. Matt Tassone.

The home team, including most of their veterans, took a while to get their game going and even scored a goal on themselves in the first 40 minutes. The Broncos looked jittery and stumbled around a tad in periods one and two. It was not really unexpected....it's hard to predict exhibition. It took a while for the young guys to adjust to the game's speed. Bronco rookies took a few hard hits out there from Moose Jaw. That combined with whatever was said in the dressing room resulted in a big third period wakeup for the guys. They came with more vigor and puck control in the third stanza, and brought forth an impressive comeback attempt. The goal scorers for the Broncos were Michael Hay, Dillon Wagner, and Jordan Peddle.

In goal, the Broncos went with 16-year old Austin Smith to start. He allowed four goals on 17 shots. They replaced him with 18-year old Alexandre Sirard at 10:34 of the second period. Sirard went on from there to stop all 14 Moose Jaw shots he faced the rest of the way. He showed immediate confidence in goal. Sirard has played great throughout camp and exhibition play and will surely get some heavy consideration for a roster spot. On the other side, the Warriors went with their number one goaltender, Jeff Bosch.

******

The game summary is below.

It will be intriguing to see who HC/GM Mark Lamb throws on the ice tomorrow in Moose Jaw. In all likelihood, he will fit Muench and Scarlett into the lineup. Look for Clark in goal as well.

I aim to post a quick game summary and recap from Moose Jaw tomorrow night. I'll make the trip to the Crushed Can for the Saturday exhibition matchup.

Have a good night.

Well the first two periods were rough. There was a general lack of intensity as the players seemed like they were floating around. Also am concerned that our defense was getting beat alot, as well as our defensive coverage (including forwards helping out the d). With that said the third period was fun, the rink got quite into it (which i found odd and amazing), and a team without quite a few vets almost came back to tie it against a team made up of their higher end guys.
Also have to say that i like Sirard, he is my back up goalie. Looked composed in net, saw through traffic and he can get from side to side really quick. I like what i have seen in him.
