A bit old news, but for those of you who are following the ins and outs of the team on here.. here it is.

The Bonner boys make a trade, Craig gets Maschy (who has fallen down the Giants depth chart and will get more of a chance to contribute quality minutes in Kamloops) and Scott gets a third round pick. The thing is that with the Giants scouting a pick is never really a waste, like it can be wiht some other teams.

16 year olds like Musil and Hodder have been very impressive so far (usual rookie errors, but they both look ready to grow) and the Giants may very well see three 16 yr old D start the season.

MASCHMEYER TO KAMLOOPS

GIANTS ACQUIRE PICK

Vancouver, BC-- Vancouver Giants General Manager Scott Bonner today announced a trade with the Kamloops Blazers. Defenseman Bronson Maschmeyer has been dealt to the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the 2010 Bantam Draft.

Bonner explained the trade saying, “We have a great deal of depth on our back end and Bronson got caught up in a numbers game, this move will give him a better opportunity to be a full time player in the WHL this season.” The Giants now have two 3rd rounds for the 2010 draft.

The 5’9’’ 176 pound Maschmeyer turned 18 last April, the Bruderheim, Alberta native played 48 games with the Giants last season scoring 2 goals with 6 assists for 8 points. Maschmeyer has played two pre season games with the Giants scoring 1 goal.

The Giants roster now sits at 31 players, including those at NHL training camps. Vancouver’s next pre season action is set for Friday September 11 in Kelowna. The Giants will also open up the regular season in Kelowna on September 17th, with their home opener vs. Everett set for September 19th at the Pacific Coliseum.
