The Edmonton Oil Kings have traded veteran forward Craig McCallum to the Prince Albert Raiders for a conditional pick in the 2010 Bantam Draft. The move reduces to Oil Kings log jam of 20 year old players from five to four. The team is only allowed to carry three over agers during the regular season.

“It is very difficult to make these decisions for our 20 year old roster spots, with the number of talented players we have in camp,” says General Manager Bob Green. “Craig is a good kid and a good hockey player. This move will make it possible for him to continue his career in the WHL.”

McCallum spent the past two seasons with the Oil Kings, scoring 31 goals in that span. He had 16 goals and 36 points, in 71 games last season. McCallum was originally drafted by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2004, in the 7th round. The Oil Kings wish him the best for the future.

“Craig was a big part of our success the past two seasons,” says Green. “He helped us make the playoffs for the first time, last year. We hope the trade will help further his career.”

The Oil Kings still have four 20 year old players in camp, including Torrie Jung (G), Brett Breitkreuz (F), Drew Nichol (D) and Garrett Thiessen (D). The deadline for getting the 20 year old list down to three players, is in the middle of October.
