The Kelowna Rockets run to the Memorial Cup last season has come at a price.

Forward Evan Bloodoff, 19, and goaltender Mark Guggenberger, 20, will both have to wait well into this season before getting into game action after suffering injuries during the playoffs.

The prognosis is more serious for Bloodoff who is expected to undergo knee surgery next week to repair an ACL injury.

Rockets President and General Manager, Bruce Hamilton, says he is likely done until February or March.

Hamilton says an MRI was performed on the knee at the time of the injury last season but the ACL wasn't completely torn.

"They don't operate if it isn't completely torn," says Hamilton. He rehabbed it and came out of the summer fine, but something has happened in the last little while," says Hamilton.

"It's kind of one of those things. If we knew exactly when it happened this summer we would be able to do more, but the ACL is the most serious of the knee injuries so the quicker we can get surgery done and the rehab started the quicker we'll get him back."

Hamilton says it's a four- to six-month process.

As for Guggenberger, the Rockets number one goaltender continues to rehab a groin injury, also suffered during last season's playoffs.

"The medical team thought that rest over the summer would help him and now I think there is a procedure they will do on him to try and get it sorted out," added Hamilton.

"We anticipate two to three weeks before we would get him ready to get back and working."

Newly-acquired netminder Warren Shymko did not arrive in town in time for Wednesday's practice. Huska says he's not sure yet whether Shymko will see any ice time Friday.
