The Hitmen finally started their home schedule yesterday afternoon and after a nice pregame ceremony that saw 3 banners raised to the rafters, former head coach Dave Lowry attend, the Hitmen edged the Rebels 3-2 in a fairly even contest.

The first period started very slow for both teams, there wasn't a shot on goal until after the midway point of the period. Once the Hitmen got their first shot they had a couple of good scoring chances but no goals came of it.

In the second period, the parade to the penalty box started for the Hitmen and the Rebels took advantage. Cass Mappin came down the right wing a took a low wrist shot, that Michael Snider would like to have back, to make it 1-0 Rebels. Just 55 seconds later, while short-handed, Ian Schultz came down the wing and undressed a Rebel defenceman, and fired a wrist shot over the glove of Rebel goalie Darcy Keumper to tie the game at 1. From that point on the Hitmen stopped skating and the Rebels just outworked the Hitmen, scoring another soft goal on Snider and lead 2-1 after 2.

The third period was really all Hitmen. Just under 3 minutes in, Tyler Fiddler scored his 5th of the year on a slap shot short side (Keumper's blocker side) to tie the game at 2. And then on the power play, Broda found a soft spot in the Rebel penalty killing box and fired an absolute perfect wrist shot to the top corner of Keumper's glove side to give the Hitmen the lead. The Hitmen dominated the period, allowing just 2 Red Deer shots on goal.

The Hitmen are 4-0 to start the year.
