Raiders Make Major Roster Moves

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan – Prince Albert Raiders General Manager Bruno Campese has made 3 roster moves with the Western Hockey League team prior to hosing the Kootenay Ice tomorrow night at 7 PM, then departing Wednesday morning for their bi-annual trip to the United States Division.

Stanford Traded to Blades for D-men Wall & Yaworski

19 year-old goaltender Steven Stanford, who has appeared in 78 career games as a Prince Albert Raider has been dealt to the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for 19 year-old defenceman Brendan Wall and 17 year-old defenceman Tyler Yaworski. The teams also swap draft picks in this trade as the Blades get the Raiders 6th round selection in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft and PA picks up Saskatoon’s 4th round pick also in 2011.

Wall, from Saskatoon, is entering his third season and second full year in the WHL. He has appeared in 5 games for the Blades this season with a goal and an assist.

Yaworski, from Sherwood Park, Alberta started the season with the Sherwood Park Kings of the Alberta Major Midget League where he played last season. Yaworski will join the Raiders immediately.

I remember watching yaworski in the preseason and was pretty impressed with him and wall should strengthen our backend. it will be nice having flette to come in some games and give zemlak a break as i couldnt see stanford doing that

not at all stanford hasn't played good this year even though he hasn't played much during the preseason the team just didnt play the same in front of him like they do for zemlak. I really like that yaworski in the deal looked very good in preseason

why make the trade for flette ?
how many "D" do we have now ?10, i would havedont the trade straight without wall. how is brunogoing to find the ice time for all of these dmen

westbeach55
10-05-2009, 02:40 PM
why would you turn down getting another dman if you can even if we have 10 we can still make a trade or send someone down. this was a good trade yaworski looked solid during the preseason and is 6'3. wall sounds like a solid dman and flette will help push zemlak. i like edwards just dont know if he's ready.

Dwight Schrute

who out of the dmen would you cut or send down ? i think yaworski sounds good too, i am just wondering how everyone will get the ice time needed to develop.

this makes no sense unless PA is going to package a few dmen for some scoring. How are young dmen going to develop, where are they going to find the ice time.

I just found this out and I like 1 of the returns but ......why not Wintoneak ? come on ! Hrynyk ,Ruopp , Newell ... these guys are good enough to play now. not happy with this deal at all nobady should be . it messed up the future goaltending of the team if they send down Edwards for flette. Bad enough Stanford. I mean at least get Sharky in the deal. frick sakes

experience and size is the key here as we have found out with a our loss to swift on the weekend. not sure about the flette deal and edwards on the outside. stanford just wasn't doing it

Thanks for all the posts, emails and the calls that we got tonight.

Was a good show.

Do it all again on October 19th after the Raiders return from their US roadtrip.

I kind of like the deal, I like Stanford but he has proven to be inconsistent last season. I'm not sure about Wall but I liked how Yarlowski played. Let's just hope Garrett can pick up his road game a bit.

And on the Dman issue, not sure how much truth it is but Newell's uncle told me that Tyson has been really wanting to move up to forward, this could be a possibility?

That's just my $0.02

After looking at it over and over again I see the reasoning behind it and it could be on of those deals where do real well in . Both the d men we get do soldify our defence a ton your right which makes Zemlak and Flette better. The initial yuck I had with the deal is our top 6 will be
deck , rowley
button,wall
yaworski,aasman
ruopp,hrynyk
newell
I really like the depth . dont like what we are going to send away or sit. thats all. But in my inital critisim of the deal i never thought about how much better those those 2 makeour goalies now . and for years to come. Unless Stanford plays a star role for the blades this is a good deal for the Raiders. And to me Morrison has looked insane

I agree 100%, I don't like the fact that we will have 3 good players sitting. Although we will indeed have a more solid back end to help Zemlak and Flette out. I'm a huge fan of Ruopp and see him being great. And I like Newell and being our only hometown kid, would like to see him play more.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how the US trip goes.

agree 100% if our d is solid should lead to some more offensive production. more deals could also be in the works in the future with bruno always trying to improve our team. it will be nice to see wall in the lineup and flette will be dressed but zemlak getting the start

Dwight Schrute

Why did wall never crack the dub full time till he was 19 ?

westbeach55
10-05-2009, 10:43 PM
seems that the blades have alot of depth in defence in there organization as we seen in the rookies that played here in the preseason

Dwight Schrute
10-06-2009, 04:55 AM
could one of the d move to forward ? why is edwards gone ? did bruno say how he was planning on giving all 9 of these defencemen the ice time to develop properly ?

domino

like the depth but Aasman needs to play top 4 minutes ,last year was a wasted year for him. I see them moving a dman for some scoring

Dwight,

Going over the show in my head, don't believe the excess d-men situation was ever approached. Or if there is a plan to convert a d man up to forward. First chunk of the show was spent on the trades and moves that had already been made. Followed by as many of the board posts and email questions that we could get to. Sprinkled in with talk about tonight game and even a few phone calls including one from "Stella" that has been mentioned on these boards already somewhere.
Bruno officially announced that Edwards was going to be heading to the AJHL’s Calgary Royals. The idea being that if Edwards at 17, stays with the team this year, he might at most play 7-10 games. While being reassigned to Calgary will allow him to play in almost every game that team has. This way he can continue his development and not lose anything by riding the bench this year.

I'm looking forward to tonight's game and we'll just have to see how much more the team develops on the US road trip and when they get back, maybe welcome them home with a sellout.

im just thinking maybe it will be good to have a couple extra guys on d, during this states trip if injury or any one gets sick we will have some depth and could even throw a guy on forward if needed hopefully we can win a couple on the trip and at least come home .500 or better
