Giffen Nyren from the Blazers for a conditional 6th round pick.

This trade doesnt make sense at all if Calgary wanted to add a 20 yr old Dman there is a very solid 1 in PG in Dallas Jackson. He came into Regina and was by far the best defenseman on the ice for both teams. He is offensive, big at 6'2 who has played a ton of defense in his own end the last season and half. I think Calgary missed the ball on this 1 but if they win the East again it wont matter lol.... i just think Jackson was/is a better choice then Nyren

He has been on what? 3 or 4 WHL teams since coming into the league as an 18 year old rookie? There may be something 'off-ice' that we don't know about him, and also sometimes decisions are made for the well-being of the player. It can't feel good to get traded every 3 or 4 months.

This is Nyren's 3rd team as well now as he started out in MJ then dealt to Kamloops.. Jackson is on his 3rd team as of right now as well.... you would think that if there was off ice issues being a 20 yrs old now would bring maturity as well

Nyren however, has 2 years in the league on Jackson. Jackson started his WHL career at 18 rather than 16.

ya a late bloomer... lots of those happen... a more recent player is 1 who was with the Pats Rick Rypein and he is now getting a NHL pay cheque. Rypein also started at age 18 as well

I can tell you, there are 17 year old players at the same position that will not be warming up to Nyren.
