Despite the return of three veterans, the Kelowna Rockets were no match for the Kamloops Blazers Friday.

Lucas Bloodoff and Collin Bowman both returned from the injured list while Brandon McMillan played his first game since early December when he left for Canada's World Junior Team.

Bloodoff marked his return with a pair of first period goals, however, not much else went right for the Rockets as they fell 6-4 to the Blazers in the opening half of a home-and-home series.

During the radio post-game show, Rockets assistant coach Ryan Cuthbert says the team did not commit to doing the things they were asked in practice and did not compete hard enough.

The return of captain Lucas Bloodoff from injury to Kelowna‘s still injury-laden lineup didn‘t help the Rockets from suffering another stinging loss.

I thought Lucas played well in his first game back,” said Rockets head coach Ryan Huska, whose team lost for a third straight time and for the eighth time in nine games. The streak, added Huska, can be blamed on poor work habits.

“We only had a handful of guys show up,” he said. “Too many guys aren‘t where they need to be... they need to compete much harder than they are right now. Really, too many guys are afraid to get their nose dirty, and that shows in the way we compete on the ice.”

ICE CHIPS: Kelowna scratched D Collin Bowman (ankle), F Evan Bloodoff (knee), F Geordie Wudrick (shoulder), RW Kyle St. Denis (concussion) and RW Spencer Main (concussion).

" Ride the pine" .... This term has been around longer than anyone still playing today, or alive for that matter. Seems bench management nowadays never sit players to send a message and improve individual character anymore, especially star players. Discipline drops, injuries rise (concussions) resulting in lack of respect to the opposition. How can you expect respect if you don't earn it. Discipline leads to better work ethics not only in sport but in life also. Minor hockey suffers huge now because of it. If "Ridin the pine" doesn't help maybe someone else will. Trades don't always solve the problem either, especially if this player has a lack of discipline like poor attitude or poor work ethic, because after the trade they figure. Hey maybe i can get away with it here also.
