Scotty Munro Champs!
Sure it was just another game vs the lowly Oil Kings. But the game had lots of meaning for the Hitmen. They needed just one more win to guarantee themselves home ice advantage throughout the playoffs and the Hitmen easily beat Edmonton 7-2 to clinch top spot in the WHL.
Very impressive for a team that lost 3 starting defencemen from a year ago, a 100 point scorer and several other key members. Kelly Kisio deserves a lot of credit for the success of the team, year after year the Hitmen remain a competitive team and the past couple years have been one of the top teams in the league. Not easy to do in junior hockey.
1. CAL Shattock, (30) (Nyren, Stebner), 9:54 (PP)
1. CAL Schultz, (24) (Kozun, Broda), 16:10 (PP)
2. CAL Kozun, (32) , 8:12
2. CAL Fiddler, (30) (Sylvester, Cowan), 8:27
2. EDM St. Croix, (18) (Svendsen), 8:47
2. CAL Stone, (20) (MacKenzie, Kozun), 13:33 (PP)
2. CAL Sylvester, (10) (Stone, Fiddler), 15:52
2. EDM Soudek, (11) (Piluso), 18:20 (PP)
3. CAL Royer, (5) (Foucault), 17:36
I missed the game so I don't have much to say but the Hitmen set a franchise record last night when Michael Stone scored his 20th goal of the season, the goal gave the Hitmen 8-20 goals scorers, a new franchise record.
The Hitmen wrap up the regular season tomorrow vs the Rebels, a game that really has no meaning for either team. I expect to see Michael Snider in goal for the Hitmen and probably a couple of vets sit the game out to avoid an injury or 2 before the playoffs start next week.
