from Giants website:

After making a trade with the Tri-City Americans to switch first round picks, the Vancouver Giants today selected Forward Anthony Ast from Burnaby B.C. with the 19th overall pick in the WHL Bantam Draft. The Giants acquired the 19th pick along with a 2nd round pick in 2011 by sending their first pick, 13th overall to the Tri-City Americans.

Ast, born February 11/95 , Giants Director of player personnel Jason Ripplinger says “Anthony is a goal scorer who doesn’t mind paying the price to get those goals, he plays well in traffic, he is a skilled player with good speed, he blocks shots and is a good character player who is difficult to play against”

Ast is 5’8’’ and 165 pounds and played Bantam this past season with the Burnaby Winter Club, where he recorded 67 goals, 99 assists for 166 points in 73 games. wow -- great numbers.

The Vancouver Giants made 11 selections in the 2010 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, and for the most part the Giants have chosen to go with home grown talent. General Manager Scott Bonner feels that this draft was a good one, “ We won’t know for sure for a couple of years, but we feel we drafted players today that will make an impact on our team over the next five years” Bonner started the day making a trade with the Tri-City Americans, sending the 13th overall pick to Tri-City for the 19th overall pick today and a 2nd round pick in next year’s draft. “This trade adds to our depth of picks in the future. We do not have a first round pick as of now in next year’s draft because of the Musil trade, so this will help us at the draft table a year from now, and still allow us to get a quality player this year today at 19”

Of the 11 players selected today by the Giants, seven are from BC, six of those are from the Greater Vancouver area.
