2010-2011 Roster

Things are a little slow so I thought I would start a early summer roster prediction. So here I go.

Goalies: Kuemper (20) Rakochy (17)

If the Wings decide to send Coutzee back to Junior he would take the place of Furguson. I also liked how Chase McMurphy looked at the prospect camp so he could push Muller and Robinson for one of the extra forward spots.

Yes I do think Kuemper will be back there is a bit of a log jam for goalies in the Wilds system. Matt Hackett played in Windsor last year and we all know what they did and Anton Khudin has progressed nicely through there system and was in Houston by the end of last year. Leaving Kuemper in Red Deer would benifit him.
They might have thought they needed to stock the shelves with that pick. They could have just listed him but using a late draft pick might have been easier.

You think Kemper will be back? I thought that is why they drafted Halcrow.There is a very good chance that Kuemper will be back--Halcrow is just insurance in case he doesn't.

I am glad someone posted something as it we were overdue. I believe we will get Coetzee back, and with that it changes things slightly. I also believe there is a chance to see a few other players here and have made a few changes.

It all changes if Ferraro gets moved but for this exercise I am assuming he is still a Rebel.

Some interesting picks. I agree that Olsson could make the team as a 16 year old, if he does end up showing up for camp. He is a big kid that can skate and plays with a bit of an edge. I liked Chartrand in the prospect camp, but he has at least another year before he makes this team--you have to be pretty special to crack a Rebel lineup as a 16 year old blueliner (or even as a backup goalie for that matter). I think that on the off chance that Coetzee does return, he will bump Ferguson off the roster.

I put Scheidl on the 3rd line, but based on last season he is probably a 4th liner. I put him there because he is 18, and needs to be getting that kind of ice time to remain in this league.

Bresciani looked better than Pufahl to me in last year's camp, but undersized. On paper Bresciani is roughly the same size as Pufahl now. That said, I think they both could make the team. It is a make or break season for Witt.

Ferguson would make an excellent 20 year old, and if we had him Coetzee and Archer we would have quite the groupd of 20's. I will concede that you are likely right and that Kuemper would knock Ferguson out but I don't support 20 year old goalies and think you are better off if you are able to put your 20 year old on the top two forward lines. If all you have is someone on the third or fourth line then I get it, but that is not the case with Ferguson.

What I read in the article was that he is coming back to Red Deer due to the fact that Hackett has signed a entry level contract and Kuemper has a ATO contract. But you are right they are high on him and it looks like he will be signing a entry level contract sometimes this year.

I heard an update on Witt from a reliable source the other day. It seems that after his surgery in march, he has progressed a little slower than expected. While he is off his crutches, he is still using a cane to get around. If he is using a cane and we are only 2 months away from training camp, I am wondering how ready he will be for training camp in September. I think he is slowly sliding down my list........
