The Rockets have assigned prospect Tyrell Goulbourne, 16, to the Canadian Athletic Club midget AAA hockey team in Edmonton.
“We think another year of midget will do nothing but good for Tyrell in preparing him to make this hockey club and be an important part of our team next year,” says Kelowna Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton.
The Rockets also released forwards Codey Ito, 19, and Sean Aschim, 18, and are working towards finding the two players an assignment within the WHL.
“This was a very tough decision to make because Codey and Sean are real quality young men,” says Bruce Hamilton. “But it is my belief that we wouldn’t be able to provide enough ice time for these players to be happy playing here.”
If no WHL assignment can be found, Ito (2 goals and 5 assists in 62 games last season) and Aschim (2 goals and 2 assists in 26 games with Prince Albert Raiders, no points in 21 games with Kelowna) will be released back to the Junior A teams that own their rights in Saskatchewan.
The Rockets roster now sits at 27 heading into the team’s home opener against Prince George Saturday, September 25, at Prospera Place.
