It looks like the Williamson is rotating the overagers now. The last 3 games Fisenko, Stebner and last night Foucault were all scratched. Not a good performance by the boys last night.

Mike Williamson thought he had his Calgary Hitmen headed in the right direction.

Following a 3-0 setback to the visiting Swift Current Broncos on Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the Hitmen coach emerged from his office in frustration.

“I was frustrated by the lack of everything tonight,” said Williamson, whose Hitmen (2-3-0) had reeled off two straight home-ice victories prior to the disappointing loss. “Our team showed so many positive things the last two games and our compete level was getting to where it needed to be. We wanted to build on that and instead we took a big step back.”

Other than rookie goalie Juraj Holly, who stopped 21 shots in a losing cause, Williamson said he “it was hard to find a guy tonight that competed” at a high enough level to win.

“He might have been the one guy that you wouldn’t say that he didn’t give it his all,” Williamson said. “He competed hard, he battled for pucks. Unfortunately we didn’t help a lot in front of him or at the other end. We have to score some goals to win hockey games and we were on the perimeter. We weren’t willing to go to the net to get the traffic possible to generate some things.”

Calgary co-captain Matt MacKenzie said the Hitmen will have to put the loss behind them to prepare for a five-game road trip to the United States starting next Wednesday in Portland against the Winterhawks.

“It’s definitely a tough one to swallow,” MacKenzie said. “They out worked us pretty bad in our own building which is hard. I know a lot of guys didn’t come to play tonight so we’ve got to regroup (for the) U.S. road trip.”

Swift Current captain Cody Eakin led the Broncos (2-5-0-0) with a pair of power-play goals, while goalie Mark Friesen stopped all 25 shots he faced to record the shutout.

“Tonight we played solid as a team,” said Eakin, whose squad had lost five straight heading into action. “We have been fighting it the last few games but tonight we kind of turned the page and things were rolling for us.”

Justin Dowling also scored for the Broncos and added a pair of assists.

Cody Sylvester had the best scoring chance for Calgary when he was awarded a penalty shot early in the final frame after being hauled down by Swift Current forward Andrew Sullivan. But Sylvester rang a wrist shot off the post behind Friesen to preserve Friesen’s shut-out bid.
